I have always considered myself to be very organized. It’s that dreaded Virgo neat freak thing! I like a place for everything and everything in its place. However, as I’ve grown older, I have more trouble remembering where that place might be. I used to have such a keen memory for everything, I never had to make a ‘to do’ list or write down what I needed at the grocery store. It is troubling to me that over the past year, I have become the queen of the Post It Note. I find that if I don’t write things down they seem to evaporate from my brain, and I don’t like that feeling. When I worked in the corporate world, I always made lists; there were always staff meetings, client meetings, deadlines, etc. but this is not the same. My daily, mundane life should not require a sticky note! Okay, maybe I am exaggerating; I haven’t forgotten to take out the trash or walk the dog or feed the cats…yet! But what if I do?
The other night I dreamed that my entire house was wallpapered in yellow Post Its, with endless lists of things to remember. When I told my friend, Marcie she said that it’s perfectly normal to forget things. I hope she keeps that in mind because I forgot her birthday last week. She says that it’s part of the aging process, nothing to worry about. Let’s hope she’s right.
Is your memory as good as it used to be? Do you have to write things down? Do you want to go in half on a case of Post It Notes?

Oh, Lord, don't get me started!! I need a post it to remind me to get out of bed in the mornings, to go to the bathroom and eat breakfast these days!! And that's just to get the day started! And it's down hill from there. When I, too, was in the corporate world I used to pooh pooh the idea of losing memory as I got older! Who me??? Never!! Well, I've had to eat those words!!
Yeah, I'll go in half on a case of Post It Notes!!!
Now what was I just doing???
Uh??? Oh, yes! Have a great day!
Sylvia????? I think!!
My memory is awful and I'm constantly writing myself notes. Maybe I should get some post it notes!
The check is in the mail for the Post It Notes, Sunny! I think!
Anyway, as we get older, we forget more, beacause we just have more to forget.
I've always made lists because it makes me feel good when I cross something off of it. So far my memory is as good as its ever been, but its never been that great anyway! :-)
My daughter is a list maker and when she was little I would laugh because the first thing she put on her list was, Wake Up.
I have a fortune invested in the 3-M company. I couldn't live without post-its. Yes I need them to keep everyday life organized now. My steel trap memory has snapped shut and I can't remember anything anymore. I have those sticky pieces of paper tucked everywhere.
Girl if I put the grocery list away before putting it all in the cart......I get home without it!!!!!
What was the question?
What great comments! I myself have noticed that I think of the most wonderful thing, go to tell my SO about it, and I've forgotten it! So yes, I am not working towards using the iPod Touch Notes thingy. And it's nothing like when I was working, then I used Post-Its everywhere. In Retirement, I thought that was behind me. But no...
I use them everyday..and I hand them out to Far Guy too..not that it does me any good. I should have bought stock in 3M.
No my memory is not as good as it used to be..I hope it doesn't get worse..I think it is another of those ageing things:)
Oh --that must have been a nightmare, seeing all of those little post-it notes all over your house... HA HA ---must be funny though when you think about it!!!
I don't make too many lists anymore--but I sure did when I was working fulltime. My life was one big LIST.. These days, I don't have to do that anymore --thank goodness.
Like most of us, I do forget things on occasion--but George and I are good to help each other when one of us forgets something. My forgetfulness now comes in little things, such as where I put my glasses!!!! ha
Hugs,
Betsy
I really believe a slippery memory as we age is God's way of making sure we get enough exercise. We often have to cover the same ground twice to get one thing done. Those times when we are in a room and are not sure why....? Walking back where we were when we got the original ideas keeps us moving.
Buying post it notes is our way of helping the ecconomy. It's all good folks.
I always make a shopping list, otherwise I will come home without bread and milk, but with lots of peanutbutter (of which I have enough).
And I try to stay away from the post-its as long as I can. So, you will have to buy your own (or use the backs of envelopes like my mum!)
I'll go in half. If you buy two cases, because I go through one case quick.
Your commenters have heartened me. I was getting scared that I am following my mum into dementia as I forget lots too. Yes, I write notes especially for appointments as I would always forget to go. I think forgetting where I have put things is my worst problem. So most things have their place but if I haven't put it back I'm lost.
The fact that I forgot to read this post the day you posted tells you how much I need Post-It notes! You are not alone.
I forget a LOT of things. Daily. I've even forgotten how old I was and had to call my twin sister to ask her. Yeah. Now THAT'S bad.
