I’m not sure if it’s a result of the cursed trait of being a Virgo or being the daughter of a perfectionist; whatever the reason I know it can be annoying. Sometimes I even annoy myself!
You’ve heard the old adage ‘A place for everything and everything in its place’; well I might have well written that. Now, don’t misunderstand me, I don’t spend every waking hour vacuuming and dusting, I actually only do a housecleaning once a week. It’s clutter I can’t stand, stuff piled up, that kind of thing.
Well my neat ways have come back to haunt me! A while back I bought a small wooden easel, the kind you could display a picture on. When I purchased it, I had an idea to use it with a picture that was still packed away from our move. I put the easel in a ‘safe place’, a place I could readily retrieve it from. HA! Over the weekend I unpacked the picture and do you think I can find the easel? Everyone that said, “Nooooo”, gets a point!
I have hunted high and low, every closet, cupboard, nook and cranny…with no luck! It’s times like these that I really dislike being me! I dare not ask my husband if he remembers where I put it, or I’ll never hear the end of it.
Have you ever done something like this or am I the only nincompoop in the bloggisphere?

Did you realise, that Pisces lies directly opposite your Virgoan sun? This has the effect, if your Virgo side feels pushed, of flipping you to the chracteristics of your opposite sign - Pisces! I speak with authority. I am a Piscean sun sign, with Virgo rising, which basically means, I have double whammy effect from BOTH of them. I flip from chaos to precision, so totally empathise with your momentary Piscean muddle on the memory front. Virgo will eventually get the upper hand...

I have certainly fallen into the trap of storing things in a 'safe' place. So safe, that I end up only finding them by happy accident!
Misplacing items is considered to be normal in one's sixties. I know. The worst thing is that an easel can be made flat and could hide in a lot of different places. I usually try to reconstruct my thought process when I first bought it and see if that leads me to the hiding place. No fair calling yourself names, Sunny!
Guilty here too. My neatness drives my family crazy. I don't usually lose things. Instead I go on a cleaning drive and throw things away only to need them later.
I spend more time looking for things I have put away than using them when and if I find them.
Oh I do that all the time. I'm forever putting something in a "safe place" and then hunting over the whole house for it. Right now I'm trying to find where I put my latest mammogram pictures.
First of all, I want to know if you'll marry me! LOL!
Did you check under your bed? Behind a couch? Think of a place that the easel could slip easily into? Under the stairs?
What a cute post, Sunny... I had to laugh since I understand. Not that I'm a neat freak (definitely NOT) ---but I have certainly misplaced things lke you did. That easel is definitely in a VERY safe place!!!!! You'll find it when you quit looking for it!!!! ha
Hugs,
Betsy
Jinksy is my twin.
I once lost a Swiffer (!) for 5 months. By the time I found it, I had forgotten I'd bought it.
Oh, yes, I do that all the time. I even think to myself as I'm putting something in a clever place so that I'll remember it that it probably isn't a good idea, but I still go ahead and do it.
Oh, Sunny! How I do relate!!! Ever since my son moved me to Seattle I seem to have even more "memory" problems than before! And you are definitely NOT anywhere near a nincompoop status. And, yes, you will find it when you stop looking for it! Has happened to me more times than I care to discuss!!
Big hugs,
Sylvia
Unfortunately you're not the only nincompoop in the blogosphere. I've lost socks, shoes, books and lots of other things. And when I'm not looking for them they usually turn up some day. Usually...
You are not alone. Just remember that a "safe place" also means it is safe from you.
Those handling your estate will someday say as they find your easel,"wonder what she wanted this for?"
You're definitely not alone. If I put things in a 'safe' place I can never find them when I need them. However, if I can leave things in a messy pile on my desk I can put my hands on it right away!
For god's sake, your somewhat like me. I'm not a clean freak, by any means. I can't stand walking into a home that is clean as a museum! Your afraid to sit on or touch anything. Those kind of people I don't care for that much. Our Home is "tidy". It is lived in. There is some clutter, especially here in the Computer Room, but it get's "squared away" in time. There have been times that I can't find something, but it's because I just forgot where I put it. Not because of clutter.
I believe that a home should look "lived in". There might be some things laying around, but that's ok. Maybe some "dust bunnies" here and there. That's ok, too. I want people who visit here to feel comfortable and not think about your afraid to sit down or touch anything. Take off your shoes! Heck. I don't care!
Nice Post, Sunny

Sometimes if I am talking on the phone or if I over think a thing, I will definitely not be able to find something. The brain is a strange thing sometimes.
How are you doing with your diagnosis? Hope you are getting along well.

As you can see Sunny, you are not the only one who puts things in a safe place, so safe as not to be able to find it. Yes, I do it too. I listened to a program on the radio where I heard a tip for remembering. For example I can never remember if I have shut the garage door as I drive off thinking about something else. If you say out loud "I am shutting the door" when you do it then it sticks in your head. Same with my glasses when I take them off to change a shirt or whatever, I say, "My glasses are on the bed."
So next time you put something away say ,"The easel is in the back of the cupboard" and it just might work. It is called having presence of mind, thinking about what you are doing.
Maybe it's with the spinning wheel I "misplaced" last year! Still
MIA! It's driving me crazy! So, my nincompoop friend, you are not alone!
Guilty here!!! It just drives me crazy when that happens.
I had a round with credit card fraud, sent in all of the necessary stuff to get items removed and the next month I could not find where I filed my copies.....searched and searched. I decided if I ever found it I would make a file in the file cabinet at my husband's office(where I work). Made the file, opened the drawer and there was a file I had already made....duh!!!!!
All the time and I'm not the neat freak you are although I like tidy.I don't obsess but I can loose things, misplace them etc.Right now I'm looking for a file containing my mothers' grandfather's history and portrait.I know it's in my filing cabinet but can I find it?You bet I can't.
