New Math

They say that 60 is the new 40, so working on that premise 40 would be the new 20 and so on. Does that mean I have to wait until I'm 95 to retire at 75?

Don't you agree that our generation at 60 is a lot younger than our parent's generation? I can remember my Mom turning 60 and it was like flipping a switch and she seemed to become much older. Suddenly she couldn't do certain things or wear certain fashions because she was the dreaded six-o! Honestly, I never could follow that logic, and my Mom never could really explain why she felt that way. I think it went back to the old 'act your age' way of thinking.

Sadly, my Mom passed away at the young age of 66, and even though she had health issues, I often wonder if her thoughts about age made a difference.

As Satchel Paige once asked, "How old would you be if you didn't know how old you are?"

Yes, I agree...I'm 64 and still hike in my woods...and not ready to give up my jeans or earrings! Seriously, I never would have thought I would feel so good at this age!

Some days I'm 30 and others I'm 130 but those are just numbers.

It's so true. I've even talked about this before. When my grandmother was in her 60's she was an old women in every sense, she died at 66yrs old.
On the other hand my mother is in her sixties and she doesn't seem anywhere near as old as people seemed at her age in the past.
The same goes for my age group, I'm in my 40's and when I watch old movies I marvel at people who are 10 or 15 years younger than me but seem older in dress and manner.

What a thought-provoking post, Sunny. I definitely think getting into an age-thought has something to do with longevity or not. I definitely don't feel 50-something. (lol) I feel like I did when I first my met my darling hubby at 16 but boy am I glad I'm not 25 anymore! So much wisdom (aha!) comes with the experiences we've had already. I like Satchel Paige's question - bears thinking about. Thanks for visiting my blog. (((Hugs))) Jo

I feel young, but sometimes my body tells me otherwise! But I like that saying by Satchel Paige. I hope I can remember it! :)
